Review: Westcord Fashion Hotel Amsterdam

Before embarking on my Swiss Tour I went to Amsterdam for a couple of days to stay at the four star Westcord Fashion Hotel. It’s located between the Schiphol Airport and the city centre allowing guests to reach both in short time. It’s a perfect place for business people looking for modern and comfortable settings during their stay, but also the hot spot if you’re a fan of sky bars and fashion. Here’s my review.

A modern breathing space
Let’s face it; as charming and inspiring it is to stroll around a buzzing city just to capture the heart and soul of it - the more relieving it actually is to come home to a hotel located in placid surroundings. Such a hotel is the Westcord Fashion Hotel. With a location 15-20 minutes from the centre and opposite an idyllic park, there’s plenty of room for relaxation and pondering. However, the hotel’s very modern and people who are looking for calm weekend get-aways should probably go elsewhere. On top of the hotel you’ll find the SKYY bar (hosted by SKYY vodka) with views over Amsterdam, and the entire hotel is decorated with contemporary art and fashion items in honour of the neighboring World Fashion Centre. Some of it didn’t make so much sense to me (like the mannequins in human size overlooking the reception area), but on the other hand I have never seen anything like it in a hotel before.

I arrived quite late in the evening and a friendly receptionist informed me briefly of the different facilities of the hotel. I went to my double room located on the 4th floor, and a plate of chocolate and fresh fruit awaited me accompanied by a sweet note from the Hotel Manager. Westcord Fashion Hotel offer 260 rooms in total allocated on 4 different room types complying to any budget; Large Fashion Twin rooms, Large Fashion Double rooms, Extra Large Fashion Triple rooms and the Royal Suites with balconies. I stayed in a Large Fashion Double room, which didn’t provided any greater surprises, but the bed was big (win!) and the bathroom well-equipped with both a shower and a bathtub.

Facilities
If you want to stay in for a bite it’s possible to do so in the ‘Fashion’s Restaurant & Bar’ located on top of the hotel and why not order a drink in the SKYY bar afterwards? Cocktails vary from the traditional ones such as ‘Dark’n’Stormy’ to the hotel’s own signature drink (and my personal favorite); Skyy Is The Limit. As much as I love wellness and spa treatments my schedule didn’t allow me to visit ‘Wellness Garden’ - the spa area of the hotel. But if you’re a guest here,  it’s definitely recommendable to visit at least the swimming pool and the Turkish steam bath, as it’s free of charge. Other treatments like massage, pedicure and facials can be booked through the reception.

The SKYY bar

As the keen reader might have noticed, I’m a fan of breakfast buffets, as I believe they indicate the standard of the hotel in so many levels. The breakfast at Westcord Fashion Hotel didn’t disappoint me. The selection was actually quite big and it consisted of everything from scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages to fruit salads, yoghurt and pastries. Also here, the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Westcord Fashion Hotel is mainly business oriented, but families also stay here due to the high level of comfort at reasonable prices. As mentioned before, the location is not exactly central, however, public transportation is very easy to reach and both trains and trams will take you directly to the city centre.
I can recommend this hotel to anyone in need of a genuine 4 star accommodation when visiting Amsterdam - and anyone with a taste for delicious cocktails!
