I have already written about Dresden and why you must put this German gem on your bucket list (click here to read the article), but I could go on. Especially thanks to one specific hotel, which makes a weekend getaway here so much more elegant and magical. I’m talking about Taschenbergpalais; a historical mansion built by the Saxon king, August the Strong, in the 18th Century, as a pledge of love to his mistress. Today, it’s run by the renowned hotel chain Kempinski, who - in my opinion - has managed to bring the ends together.

So what can you expect? Well, first and foremost, this is a hotel that combines past glory with modern amenities. There are 182 rooms and 31 suites ranging from basic standard rooms (good if you’re traveling alone or wish to spend your time exploring the city) to the luxurious Crown Prince Suite. Last-mentioned might burst your budget, but if you’re in for a life time experience, why not splurge “a little” extra?! After all, you’ll get 360 m2 and the best views imaginable! A Deluxe Room (the one I stayed in) is also very suitable though if you’re a couple or a family with 1 or 2 children (one extra beds is available). The best part of the stay was undoubtedly the stunning view of the Zwinger (the Royal Palace), which could be enjoyed from all corners of the room. The cosy king size bed is worth mentioning too as is the spacious marble-floored bathroom.
A suite with a view
If you’re in for a full-on spa weekend, Taschenbergpalais might not be your first choice, as the spa is not so big (and the fitness area even smaller), however, the ambience here is lovely and so is the staff. There’s a pool, a sauna and a steam bath, and of course, a wide range of beauty and wellness treatments available.
The hotel’s own restaurant, Intermezzo, has a Michelin star, but the Palais Bistro is also worth a visit if you’re looking for more laid-back ambience with a touch of French brasserie.
