Hotel Heritage in Bruges: A luxurious get-away in Belgium

Once in a while an get-away can be much needed. You know, a couple of days where you don’t have to worry about anything or do something you don’t want to do. Recharge your batteries and become a better and happier version of yourself by taking a few days off to get pampered. Sounds nice, right? And you don’t even have to go further than Belgium! A hour from Brussels you’ll find this 4 star retreat, where relaxation and well-being are keywords. Welcome to Hotel Heritage in Bruges!

At first sight the hotel doesn’t show off any flamboyant signs. The whitewashed facade and the entrance looks nice, but it’s not until you reach the inside that you’ll understand the popularity and charm of this historical place! The building itself is more than 600 years old and through the years it has been under the administration of several families - and a bank! The current owners, Mr. and Mrs. Creytens, bough the place 20 years ago and changed it into a charming hotel and today it carries the title ‘Relais & Chateaux’, which is definitely a sign of good quality and service as well as high culinary standards. (There’s more than 500 Relais & Chateaux hotels in the world).

A little gesture with a great effect. This package containing homemade sweets was waiting for us in our room upon arrival.

A happy girl in a very comfy bed!

The hotel is small offering only 24 rooms of which 4 are luxurious suites with splendid views - and maybe that has something to do with the fact that one instantly feels at home when entering the hotel! We were greeted by a very helpful receptionist who even followed us to our room, and no matter where you looked the details were though of. From comfortable armchairs and sofas in the lobby to delicious home-baked goods and iPads for free use in the room - it seemed just right! Unfortunately we couldn’t get a reservation in the restaurant ‘Le Mystique’, which by the way has two red forks in the Michelin guide. But we did have the opportunity of having a drink or two in the bar ‘Le Magnum’, which also functions as a library.

You won’t find an actual spa department, but the basement (which dates back to the 14th Century and was renovated at the turn of the millennium) there’s a sauna, a steam bath and a small fitness area. We eagerly used the sauna and steam bath and that’s really all you need to get that ‘spa feeling’ - including a fluffy, white bathrobe and comfy slippers of course!

The next morning it was time to enjoy the delicious breakfast buffet that seemed to contain a little bit of everything! The highlight though was the home-made Belgian waffles, the freshly squeezed orange juice and the home-baked bread. About an hour later we we’re checking out - happy and well-rested after 24 hours of self-indulgence.

Johan and Isabell Creytens welcomes their guests - they have truly understand the art of combining luxury with comfort!

Hotel Heritage definitely gets my highest recommendations, and it doesn’t matter if you’re already in Bruges or not - here’s something to travel for! Both the hotel and the city of Bruges invites for relaxation and ‘good times’, and Hotel Heritage can help you arrange everything from a romantic stay with your loved one to a casual business dinner or family vacation packages.
